Startup fundraising as a first time founder is a minefield!

There's a load of new language. It feels like there's a huge power imbalance asking someone for cash to fund our business, and if they say no, we often have no idea why!

This lunch and learn is here to answer your core fundraising questions, as well as sharing some investor insights that every founder needs to know before trying to fundraise! Come ready with questions and we'll try to answer as many as we can!

Who's sharing

Marcus Exall: has been an angel investor since 2013 after selling his first business in digital advertising. He has invested in 20+ businesses including in the first round of companies such as Improbable and Monese (where he was also on the Board), as well as more recently in Swedish crowdfunding record breaker Mendi. He always aims to take a ‘founder first’ approach, adding value beyond the money. He's recently been the investor in residence at Virgin Startup's Investment Readiness Accelerator, and also supports startups through his latest business Up And To The Right

Tim Deeson: co-founder of IfWeRaise and Angel Investor. Tim came to angel investing through his experiences as a technology business founder, first of a digital platform agency and then with the conversational AI product OpenDialog. He now works with early stage founders on strategy to help them reduce risk and increase speed - particularly the effective application of Lean Startup techniques such as Minimum Viable Product. He frequently runs accelerator programmes at the London School of Economics, where is Entrepreneur in Residence.

Hattie Willis: co-founder of IfWeRaise and Host of Not My First Guess Podcast. As a startup coach and trainer, Hattie has supported hundreds of founders on accelerators such as Allia Impact, Hatch, Funding Accelerator, Amazon's Sustainability Accelerator to name a few. Meanwhile, on Not My First Guess, Hattie interviews founders of all stages, aiming to debunk and de-glamorise startup myths, particularly around the different funding paths; so anyone can learn from the real experiences of founders from all backgrounds.
